Ushan Perera and Lahiru Jeewantha were honored with the Best Driver and Rider awards respectively while Kushan Peiris secured three awards in the lower classes at the SLARDAR Sri Lanka Super Series 2023 Awards Ceremony held last week at the Rock House Army Base in Colombo 15. Peiris won the three awards for best driver Ford Lazer/Mazda One Make 1300cc, 1500cc and SLH Cars up to 1618cc Honda.
The event also coincided with the 40th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers and Riders (SLARDAR).
According to SLARDAR, Peiris’ three awards marked the first time a motor racer won three awards at a single annual awards ceremony.
Racers from the army which is in the forefront of motor sports promotion in the country swept the boards bagging the bulk of the awards stamping their class and dominance in the sport.
SLARDAR’s exclusive championship, the Sri Lanka Super Series is now in its 10th year as a joint venture with the club AMRC that collectively showcased champion drivers, riders and the Awards Night was not short of celebrations with distinguished guests and motorsports enthusiasts gracing the occasion.
For once there was no race track tension and the racing fraternity that includes competitors and officials had a memorable occasion to savour.
“The SLARDAR committee spared no effort in orchestrating the event at a gala level, ensuring an unforgettable experience for all attendees. As awards were presented, the atmosphere brimmed with excitement, acknowledging the outstanding performances in each category.
“The success of the evening stood as a testament to SLARDAR’s 40-year commitment to elevating the standards of motor sports in Sri Lanka”, said an official of SLARDAR.
