Kandy SC tightened their game in the second half to come up with a superb win over CH & FC by 32 points to 24 in their Nippon Paint second round inter club league rugby match at the Race Course ground in Colombo yesterday.
Kandy SC gained a bonus point by scoring four tries, three were converted and two penalties for their comeback win.
In reply CH managed to score only two tries, one conversion and four penalties that gave them the initial lead until midway in the second half.
CH played well in the first half to score their points from two tries, one conversion and two penalties. Their place kicker in Hirusha Nethmina was very confident with his conversions that gave them the lead by 12 points at one stage.
But after a yellow card was shown to Nethmina late in the second half Kandy SC took the initiative to play more constructively and run the ball among their back division to move forward.
Kandy SC scored first in the fifth minute when they used a rolling maul and Jason Dissanayake scored the try.
CH scored next through another rolling maul by Nirosh Perera to level the scores.
Kandy SC scored again in the 13th minute when off a line out burly forward Fawmy Wajid went over with the ball.
Tarinda Ratwatte converted to give them 12 points and the lead at that time.
But just before half time CH scored a try through Janith Laksara who went over off a scrum. Hirusha Nethmina converted to equal the scores 12-12.
CH scored through two more penalties put over by Nethmina to give them an 18 points to 12 lead at half time.
CH scored twice more through penalties after the turn around with both kicks done by Nethmina and they took a 24-12 lead at that time.
Thereafter it was all Kandy SC who buckled down to play some constructive rugby to score two tries and two penalties.
Srinath Sooriyabandara scored the first try when he took a quick short tap and went through the defence. Tarinda Ratwatte made the conversion.
They scored again five minutes later through Ratwatte off a three quarter move and he goaled it himself.
Kandy’s next two penalties were also put over by Ratwatte to give them a lead of eight points in the end and they walked away happy with a bonus point as well.
