Sri Lanka’s top ranked super-cross specialist Jacques Gunawardena produced a stunning display at the CEAT Indian Super-cross Racing League in Pune as he finished among the top five racers.
Teaming up with the Gujarat Trailblazers team, Gunawardena showed his prowess and potential racing in the SX3 250 India-Asia mix category.
Despite limited training with his new machine, Gunawardena never let his guard down and raced neck and neck with rival Indian competitors leaving no stone unturned to prove his dexterity on the track and in all probability may have even exceeded his own expectations.
Gunawardena’s latest success came amid limited resources and not knowing what to expect in India as he stuck to his unwavering determination to send a message back home.
“Jacques envisions a brighter future not just for himself but for the entire racing community. He has shown organizers and the governing body of the sport to nurture talents like his own and inspire the next generation of racers,” his father Duane Gunawardena, himself a former racer, said.
Shane Gunawardena, the president of the motorcycle federation, praised the franchise system of the CEAT Indian Super-cross Racing League, likening it to cricket’s Indian Premier League (IPL) saying it appealed to a diverse global audience.
“Jacques’ triumph serves as a testament to the talent and potential inherent in Sri Lanka’s racing community. His success resonates not only with enthusiasts but also with aspiring racers across the country, he said.
