While Sri Lanka Cricket made a pompous show of its revamping of the Dambulla International Stadium, the country’s one time most sought after venue the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) has been neglected to such an extent that reporters assigned to cover the one-off Test featuring Afghanistan last week complained of appalling media facilities.
Some media personnel told the Sunday Observer that they had to climb five or six floors to enter the Press Box while even the smallest Test venue at Galle is equipped with an elevator or Lift.
Others said media personnel had to pass two shabby dormitories with scantily dressed occupants while a female journalist said there were no washrooms marked “Ladies”.
When asked why an address like the SSC ground which was at one time called the Lord’s of Sri Lanka has become a disgrace, an official of SLC said they were in the process of revamping media facilities.
