
Kithmi Marambe draped in the Sri Lanka flag and her silver medal at the Indian Youth Aquatic Championship
Diver Kithmi Marambe won the only silver medal for the Sri Lanka team which earned 14 medals (10 swimming, 2 diving and 2 water-polo) at the concluded Youth Aquatic Championship in New Delhi and returned home yesterday.
Marambe from Bishop’s College secured the medal during the one metre Springboard event and along with her Vinudi Kankanamge of Visakha Vidyalaya managed to finish third in the women’s three metres Springboard event and the Sri Lanka girls diving team won two medals.
The three-day event was dominated by Indian divers who were closely followed by the Thailand team.
Despite this, Kithmi Marambe achieved her first win in an international setting.
She is the current National champion for two consecutive years at the National Diving Championships and additionally she has also been crowned the Best Diver in her age group at the All-Island Age Group Diving Championship and the National Age Group Diving Championship since she took up to diving.
She represented Sri Lanka on multiple occasions, most notably the 10th Asian Age Group Championship, at Bengalaru, India and the AITN Invitational Diving Championship, Bangkok, Thailand.
