All householders countrywide have been requested by the National Elections Commission (NEC) to get registered by filling the voters’ lists given to them by the Grama Niladharies without delay.
The registration of voters above 18 is compulsory and it has to be finalised on or before February 29.
All those who are above 18 should be included in the voters’ lists and it is a compulsory requirement of the NEC, Kurunegala Senior Divisional Secretary, Administration, R.M. Jayaratne told the Sunday Observer recently.
He said the Commissioner General of the NEC, Saman Sri Rathnayake has informed Divisional Secretaries countrywide that the names of family members who are abroad but never visit Sri Lanka for voting should be included in the voters’ lists by all householders.
A National Election is due to be held in October this year and hence arrangements are now being prepared, he added.
