Thurstan College scored 53 for one wicket in reply to 250 for nine declared scored by Isipathana College on the first day of their ‘Battle of the Brothers’ cricket encounter at the SSC ground yesterday.
Thurstan batters looked confident from the start with Thanuja Rajapaksa being most impressive finishing on 33 not out off 41 deliveries.
Isipathana’s innings started off quietly after losing an early wicket of Ruchith Rodrigo for just four runs. This brought in Tharushka Ashel to the middle who settled down after a slow start to top score with 102 runs and survived two dropped catches.
However, the Thurstan bowlers were very accurate and maintained a good line and length. They kept grabbing wickets from the other end without allowing the batters from settling down.
Vihas Thevmika was the most impressive bowler who finished with six wickets for 76 runs at the end of the Isipathana innings.
