St. Benedict’s College came from behind to snatch a stunning win over their traditional rival Wesley College in their inter school cricket encounter at the P Sara Oval yesterday.
Setting Wesley a 139 target which many thought was getable, the Benedictines turned tables to win by 46 runs as they bundled out their opponents for just 92 runs with Mevan Dissanayake grabbing six wickets.

But Wesley deserved credit for making a bold and sporty declaration in their first innings at 122 for eight wickets with a deficit of 28 runs after they dismissed St. Benedict’s for 150 in the first essay.
St. Benedict’s also did not fare too well in their second innings dismissed for just 110 as Wesley’s Uvin Perera bowled best to capture six wickets for 34 runs.
Vihanga Ratnayake, Yohan Edirisinghe and Ayesh Gajanayake contributed to the win by claiming two wickets each to see St. Benedict’s coast to victory.
