The Ceylon German Technical Training Institute (CGTTI) was established in 1959 with the aid of German Government. Still the German Government is providing its fullest support through GIZ Sri Lanka to the development of this institute. Based on that a group of German parliamentarians visited the German tech Moratuwa centre recently.
Renate Künast (Chairperson of the Parliamentary Group), Paul Lehrieder, Ria Schröder and Dr. Malte Kaufmann, participated as members of this parliamentary group.
German Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives Dr. Felix Neumann, Olaf Malchow (German Deputy Ambassador) Tobias Stolz (Deputy Country Director GIZ Sri Lanka and Maldives) and Fabio Germano (Project Manager- Vocational Training in Sri Lanka Project) also participated to observe the training delivery mechanism of the CGTTI.
Chairman Suranga Mendis said that, this visit of German parliamentarians was in line with supporting the Government policy framework in developing the TVET sector of the country.
He said that this visit would give more advantages in obtaining assistance for expansion of the institute and opening foreign employment and training opportunities in Germany for its current and future students. According to Mendis, members in this parliamentary group had more interest in supporting to build collaborations between German Tech and similar institutions in Germany.
Mendis said that those collaborations and opening job and training opportunities in Germany will give more advantage to the country as a strategy to get modern technology and work methods for the development of industrial sector in the country.
He said this would support the country’s future path towards a developed nation.
