The Education Ministry has decided to recruit 13,000 graduates through a competitive examination early this year to serve in remote Tamil and Sinhala medium schools that comes under the purview of Provincial Councils. There is a severe shortage of school teachers in the Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts of the North Western Province (NWP) and the NWP Provincial Council intends to recruit nearly 2,000 graduates to serve in remote schools.

The respective competitive examination will be held on March 16 at 60 examinations centres in the Kurunegala and Puttalam districts, Secretary to the North Western Provincial Council E.M.P. Ekanayake said. He said that arrangements have been made to hold the examination in the NWP to select the suitable candidates to fill the existing vacancies of teachers in provincial schools. However, these teachers would be recruited very early as per the instructions of the Education Ministry and necessary funds have been allocated for this purpose for this year, he said.
