St. John’s College Jaffna came up with an excellent allround performance to beat Jaffna Central College by ten wickets in their 117th Battle of the North cricket encounter at the Jaffna Central College ground.

Jaffna Central batted first and scored 157 and made 149 in their second innings as Shakadevan Sayanthan top scored in their first innings with 55 runs inclusive of six boundaries.

St. John’s College replied with 228 in their first innings with skipper Nesakumar Jezial top scoring with 52 propped up by some useful contributions from Uthayanan Abiioyshanth (39) and Anderson Sachin (40).

They needed to score just 79 to win and reached the target without losing a wicket.

Ashnath 2/30, Stanley Samson 2/19)

St. John’s College: 228 (Uthayanan Abijoyshanth 39, Anderson Sachin 40, Mahendran Kinthushan 22, Nesakumar Jezial 52, Murfin Randyo 22, S. Anushanth 2/24, S. Thison 4/64, T. Abilash 4/24) and 81 for no loss (Uthayanan Abijoyshanth 50 n.o. Anderson Sachin 30 n.o.)
