International Women’s Day

ILO representative In Sri Lanka Joni Simpson being greeted on arrival at the venue by NUSS President Palitha Atukorale.

The International Women’s Day was celebrated at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute (SLFI) last week.

The event sponsored by the National Union of Seafarers Sri Lanka (NUSS) began with a parade from the Vihara Maha Devi Park to the SLFI premises. Women workers representing many trade unions participated in the event. Newly appointed Resident Representative of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in Sri Lanka, Joni Simpson and International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) Representative for the Asia-Pacific region Scott Mcdine were the Chief Guests. The event also featured several prominent speakers who spoke on the rights of women and gender equality in the workplace and elsewhere.
