The Education Ministry has called for applications from candidates who have passed the G.C.E. (A.L.) Examination 2021/2022 to be admitted to the National Colleges of Education.

The qualified candidates can apply on or before April 5, 2024. All the necessary details in this regard can be obtained from the Government Gazette dated March 15, 2024, Senior Director of Education, Kurunegala W.M.Balasooriya told the Sunday Observer.

He said that nearly 8,000 teacher trainees will be recruited for the three-year residential training at the National Colleges of Education as per the instructions of Education Minister Susil Premajayantha.

Nearly 7,000 Government school teachers are to retire from the teaching profession this year and at present there is a severe shortage of subject teachers in schools.

Around 3,000 experienced teachers have left the Government service during the past two years to take up overseas jobs, he said.
