Thurstan beat Isipathana in their seventh annual Battle of the Brothers golf encounter and bagged the Naomal Fernando Challenge Trophy equalling the tally with three wins each.
The encounter was played at the Royal Colombo Golf Club course on March 10 and Thurstanite Thushara Rupasinghe was adjudged the champion golfer.
Thurstan led by Sriyan Gurusinghe scored 218 points as against 185 obtained by Isipathana to record this comprehensive win.
Each team consisted of 13 golfers and Thurstan dominated to gain top honours.
Top of the list for Thurstan was Thushara Rupasinghe who scored 38 points followed by his classmate Chaminda Prabath with 37 points. Joel Joseph and Sriyan Gurusinghe scored 36 points each to give Thurstan this emphatic win.
While Thushara Rupasinghe claimed the top award he also won the best player and overall winner awards and also had the longest drive.
Team mate Chaminda Prabath was awarded the Best golfer with the best nett score while Prof. Deepal Weerasinghe from Isipathana won the award for the best gross score with 23 points. Harendra de Silva won by nearest to the Pin award.
The inaugural Isipathana versus Thurstan Golf Encounter was played on December 10, 2017 at the RCGC course. Isipathana won the golf encounter last year under the captaincy of Ravi Liyanage to lead the tally with three wins. Prior to equalling the win tally, Thurstan had won twice with the 2022 encounter ending in a tie.
The tournament is annually played for the Naomal Fernando Challenge Trophy, donated by the distinguished old boy of Isipathana who is also the Chairman and Managing Director of JFI Printers and Packaging Ltd.
