Methvan Fernando and Akash Prabashwa of St. Joseph’s College finished first and second respectively at the Two Mile Sea Swim held at Mount Lavinia yesterday.
All first ten swimmers finished closely behind one another with only a few seconds separating them.
Fernando finished first in a time of 43 minutes, 35.04 seconds while Prabashwa finished second in a time of 44 minutes, 03.06 seconds. All the rest also finished in a time of 44 minutes plus making the event have a very interesting finish.
Chanudi Kumarapperuma from Lyceum International School Nugegoda triumphed in the Women’s Open two mile sea swim held on Friday.
Meanwhile, Kewan Ranepura from Lyceum International School Gampaha and Suhansa Gamage from Musaeus College clinched victories in the Under-15 boys and girls sections at the Mount Lavinia Hotel Public Beach on Friday.
In the Women’s Open, Chanudi clocked 49:54.49 for first place, followed by Anjali Agalawatte (49:57.38) from Zeefit Sports Club finishing second while Sehara Anuhansi (49:57.88) from Sri Devananda College Ambalangoda finished third.
Kewan Ranepura secured first place in the boys’ under-15 event with a time of 48:22.32 while MS Silva (48:59.10) from Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda finished second and Joel Darshana (49:05.51) of St. Joseph’s College finished third.
Suhansa Gamage, a 13-year-old swimmer from Musaeus College, won the girls’ under-15 category in a time of 53:01. Kaneisha de Silva from St. Bridget’s Convent (53:10) and Iman Thambidorai from Ladies’ College (53:11) secured second and third places respectively.
The two-mile sea swim has been conducted by the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union in collaboration with Mount Lavinia Hotel for the past 85 years.
