Sri Lanka bundled out Bangladesh for 188 in the first innings and secured a lead of 211 with five wickets in hand on the second day of the first cricket Test in Sylhet yesterday.
Bangladesh resuming from their overnight score of 32 for 3 in reply to Sri Lanka’s 280, could not make much headway against some firm spot-on bowling and folded up for 188 with the pace trio of Kasun Rajitha, Lahiru Kumara and Vishwa Fernando accounting for the 10 wickets to fall.
Taijul Islam was the only Bangladesh batsman to put up some resistance as he made a top score of 47 before being caught behind against a ball from Rajitha.
But Sri Lanka did not have it easy in the second innings despite securing a 92-run lead as they lost wickets at regular intervals to reach 119 for 5 at close.
It fell on the shoulders of former Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Karunaratne to anchor the innings which he did by making 52 before he was the fifth out four overs before the day’s play could end.
