The York International School Network’s Sport Meet was held recent at the Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo. It was not only a celebration of athletic excellence, but also a gathering of guests and dignitaries.Bhanuka Rajapakse, a renowned cricket star was the chief guest.
Rohan Perera, Chairman, York Group, the guest of honour acknowledged the networks commitment to holistic education and sports. Directors of York Network, Deshan Perera and Roshane Perera, the Gampaha District Commissioner of the Sri Lanka Girl Guide Association, Pushpa Nagasena and the Scouts Commissioner of Wattala, Indika Illangakoon were also present.
The school network leadership was well represented, with the network’s Principal, Mona Dharmawardane, and the Branch Principals Surandi Mallawarachchi (York International School, Sapugaskanda), Kumari Ranasinghe (York International School, Wattala) and Jinani Pothupitiya (York International School, Kadawatha) participated.
Academic head of YGC and Examinations Manager, Sudam Ranathunga, were special guests.
The Sports Meet was not only about competition but also about community, as staff members, students, and parents came together to cheer and support the athletes. The event underscored the school network’s commitment to holistic development, emphasizing the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy competition.
It also included a variety of fun and activities which added glamour and colour to the event. The event culminated in a grand finale with the traditional March Past led by the schools flag bearers, the March Past featured teams from each branch of the York International School Network, showcasing their school colours and marching in perfect synchrony.
