Sri Lanka Golf (SLG), the governing body for golf in Sri Lanka is deliberating to fielding young boys to play in junior golf tournaments overseas this year.
They are solely looking to expose them to foreign competition and improve their standards in the game.
SLG is looking to send two boys to participate in the Pakistan Amateur championship that will be held this month.
The two boys have been selected but are still waiting for approval from the Ministry of Sports.
The two boys to participate in the Pakistan Amateur are Uchitha Rohana and Chalitha Pushpika who have displayed vast talent in the recently held tournaments.
The Pakistan Amateur Championship will be held from April 16 to 21 in Karachi.
A few boys have also been picked to be sent to Junior Tournaments to be held in Indonesia and Malaysia in the month of May. The names of the players have been sent to the Sports Ministry for approval. Players will also be able to take part in both tournaments as the venues are only a short distance apart. However, it will be interesting to know whether they will be able to afford the expenses for air tickets.
“Finding the money for their air tickets will have to be borne by the players as Sri Lanka Golf will spend only on those who are going to participate in higher ranked tournaments. We want to send these boys so that they will be exposed to competitive golf,” said Ranil Pieris president of SLG.
