Sri Lanka’s leading women cricketers Chamari Atapattu, Harshitha Samarawickrama and Sugandika Kumari produced excellent performances to create history by beating South Africa in the women’s three match T20I series 2-1 for the first time.
In the decider, Sri Lanka registered a four wicket win at East London’s Buffalo Park on Wednesday (3).
Chasing 156 runs for victory Sri Lanka’s leading batters Chamari Atapattu and Samarawickrama put on an invaluable 97 runs stand for the second wicket that laid the foundation for this victory.
Atapattu led from the front scoring 73 runs off 46 deliveries inclusive of seven fours and five sixes.
Samarawickrama chipped in with a cautious unbeaten 54 runs off 43 deliveries. The win was reached with five balls to spare.
Put in to bat first South Africa scored 155 for six off 20 overs. Wolvaardt batted best to score 56 runs with eight fours.
Nadine de Klerk also batted well to score a quick unbeaten 44 runs off just 25 deliveries with four fours and three sixes. De Klerk pulvarized the 19th over bowled by Udeshika Probodani striking three consecutive sixes and two fours to score 27 runs and raise their total to 155 for six wickets in 20 overs.
Leg spinner Sugandika Kumari bowled best for Sri Lanka claiming three wickets for 24 runs.
