Old Bens, Old Petes clash for Milroy Perera Memorial Cup

Old Bens from Kotahena and Old Peterites from Bambalapitiya will clash for honours in their under-40 and over-40 (veterans) football encounters at St. Benedict’s ground Kotahena today (7).

The confrontations, which was scheduled to be held last year, was postponed due to inclement weather and is being held this year.

The first match between Old Bens Veterans and Old Peterite Veterans will begin at 2.45 p.m.

Randolph Perera will lead the Old Bens Veterans and Rimas Ramzeen will be the skipper of the Old Peterites Veterans.

Meanwhile, the main clash for the Milroy Perera Memorial Cup between Old Bens and Old Peterites under-40 teams will be played after the veterans match.

Old Bens U-40 team will be led by Sameera Sampath while Kaushal Warnakulasuriya will skipper the Old Peterites.

This match is held to honour the services rendered by the late Milroy Perera, who was a tutorial staff member at St. Benedict’s College and a teacher and football coach at St. Peter’s College.

Old Peterites won the first two encounters held in 2019 and 2022.

In the first ever veterans match in 2022 Old Bens came out victorious.

The organizing committee for this year’s tournament consists of Tilak Peiris (Chairman), R.A. Premil, Dhamodaran Chandrasiri, Diluka Perera, Athula Perera, Kishano Fernando, Anthony Chrisbaru and Stephan Pillai (all of Old Bens) and Anton Rosairo (Chairman), Christopher Perera (Secretary), Janaka Katugampola, Supun Rupasinghe and S. Hashim (all of Old Peterites).
