Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya has sponsored underprivileged students in the area to follow various educational courses, including the Korean Language and Hotel Management. A special Avurudu festival was held for these students at the Shashindra Rajapaksha Stadium in Kataragama.
The festival featured local cultural events, with numerous Avurudu games. At the end of the program, the winners were awarded gifts. Dishan Gunasekara, the chief custodian of Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya, gave instructions for organising the festival.
The chief incumbent of the Abhinawaramaya, Ven. Kapugama Saranatussa Thera, the Police Superintendent at Kataragama, and the staff members of Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya were also present.
