Lanka Fight League (LFL) in collaboration with the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has organised a first ever LFL Boxing League which is scheduled to be held on April 27 at the Royal MAS Arena Colombo from 5.30 pm onwards.

LFL co-founder Lt Commodore Chandralal Nanayakkara who himself was a former Navy boxer said they are very keen to associate with BASL to host this event to elevate boxing in Sri Lanka.

“We like to promote this sport through a new format and everywhere globally today the League has spread to build up talents.

“As the co-founder of LFL we have a good understanding with the BASL and its president Dian Gomes with a good administration strategy to build up this sport and we are ready to begin an exciting new era for boxing in Sri Lanka”, said Nanayakkara.

Gomes praised the collaborative spirit between BASL and LFL saying they are making significant strides in elevating Sri Lanka boxing.

“As the only responsible sports body for boxing this partnership creates a powerful platform to nature our nation’s boxing talents.

“This is the beginning of the LFL Boxing League and we are planning to spread it with foreign boxers in the future. We know the IPL in cricket in India has been advantageous to the sport that we want to usher into boxing”, said Gomes.

Sri Lanka boxing has a proud history producing several Olympians and the last Sri Lankan to fight in the ring at the Games was Anuruddha Ratnayake in 2008.

Sri Lanka also won three Commonwealth Games medals in 2018 that gave a good boost to the sport.

Emmanuel Murugiah the LFL co-founder said that their aim was to spread this League to school level.

Ten men’s boxers from five weight classes and six women’s boxers from three weight classes will compete at this LFL League that offers prize money and gifts according to the organizers.
