The Bank of Ceylon (BOC) has forged a pioneering partnership with the Agriculture Drone Pilot Program. This collaboration signifies BOC’s commitment to supporting initiatives that harness technology to empower farmers and revolutionise traditional farming practices.

The inaugural deployment of the first cohort of 100 Agriculture Drone Pilots commenced with a pilot drone demonstration operation in the vicinity of Nagolla Rajamaha Vihara, in the North Western Province, on April 23.

This event marks a milestone in modernising agricultural practices, harnessing the power of technology to enhance efficiency and productivity. Along with the Bank of Ceylon’s financial support and expertise the Agriculture Drone Pilot project is a collaborative effort between Kenilworth International Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, Kotelawala Defence University and Ministry of Agriculture and Plantation Industries.

BOC recognises the pivotal role technology plays in modernising agriculture and enhancing the livelihoods of farmers. By partnering with the Agriculture Drone Pilot Program, BOC aims to equip farmers with the tools and resources they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world. Through access to drone technology and specialised training programs, farmers can gain valuable insights into crop management, optimise resource utilisation, and boost productivity.

BOC’s partnership with the Agriculture Drone Pilot Program aims to enhance access to markets for agricultural produce.

By leveraging drone technology for crop monitoring and yield forecasting, farmers can improve the quality and quantity of their produce, thereby enhancing their competitiveness in local and international markets.

The Bank provides support through market links, value chain development, and trade finance solutions, enabling farmers to capitalise on new opportunities.

BOC’s partnership with the Agriculture Drone Pilot Program is part of its broader strategy to foster an innovation ecosystem that drives economic growth and social development. By collaborating with stakeholders across the agriculture value chain, including government agencies, technology providers, and research institutions, BOC aims to catalyse innovation, create employment opportunities, and promote inclusive growth in rural communities. The partnership between BOC and the Agriculture Drone Pilot Program exemplifies a shared commitment to harnessing technology for the benefit of agriculture and rural development.
