Nearly 21,880 positive Dengue patients have been detected countrywide this year. In April this year, 1,722 infected Dengue patients were detected and the majority of these patients were found in the Western Province.

Of these patients, 9 have died. Since the G.C.E.(O.L.) Examination -2023 will be held countrywide from May 6 , all examination centres will be sprayed with a Dengue mosquito control prepared chemical. Nearly 1,235 health workers have been deployed for the purpose. All these examination centres are to be sprayed on May 4 and 5, Kurunegala DMO Dr. S.M.A. Priyadarshana told the Sunday Observer yesterday. He said the Education Ministry found that nearly 156 schoolchildren, retired teachers and school heads have died of Dengue during the past three years.

In addition, 1,700 patients infected with sexually transmitted diseases have been found during the past three years in Sri Lanka and a majority of them belong to the age category of 15-29 years , he said.
