The Battle of Little England, a cricket encounter between Gamini National School Nuwara Eliya and Holy Trinity College Nuwara Eliya will be played today and tomorrow (28-29) at the Municipality ground at Nuwara Eliya making it the match of the highest altitude.

The inaugural match between the two schools played last year ended in a draw due to rain and this year a result is very much on the cards according to school officials.

Cricket is been played in many parts of the island and match organisers feel the time has come for Nuwara Eliya to also join in the celebration of inter-school cricket with a carnival-like atmosphere.

Holy Trinity Central College is near to a 170 years of tradition in Nuwara Eiya and players of both schools are already playing Provincial cricket and the match is expected to give them a big boost.

S. Ravichandran the principal of Holy Trinity Central College said the match creates a new atmosphere for Nuwara Eliya while the friendship between the two schools has gone from strength to strength and is a cricket encounter played at the highest altitude of over 6000 feet.

Both teams are said to be well balanced and a keen tussle is expected.

Jananu Adithya, Yasin Menushan and Daham Nayanajith are players who have represented Provincial teams from Gamini National School and their principal Nimal Kumaradasa is leaving no stone un-turned to make the boys move forward.

Vipul Fernando the coach of Gamini National School has full confidence in the team while master in charge Nilanga Bandara and other staff members are giving them all the encouragement.

Tony Creak from the Holy Trinity team is the key fast bowler of the side who also plays provincial cricket.

Sewjith Vidunetha will lead the Gamini National School while R. Gobikrishna captains Holy Trinity Central School.

David Relf is the coach of the Holy Trinity team and despite the lack of facilities both teams are determined to make a match of it.
