Assetline Insurance Brokers, a subsidiary of David Pieris Group of Companies, has come forward to sponsor the first ever Mercantile Cricket Association (MCA) T/10 Cricket Tournament 2024 on April 27 and 28 and continued on May 4 and 5.
The 16 MCA teams that will participate in this historic event are Recovery Room, Powerhand Plantations, People’s Leasing, Ansell Textiles, George Steuart Health, Emar Pharma, Certis Lanka, Softlogic Life, Citizens Development Business Finance (CDB), David Pieris Group of Companies, Dialog Axiata, Hilton Colombo Residencies, Seylan Bank, Astron Lanka, LOLC and Maliban Biscuits.
Initially up to the quarter-finals, the tournament will be conducted on matting wickets and the semi-finals and the final on turf, using the white ball with players attired in coloured clothing in two stages playing a total of 31 matches.
The 16 teams will be pooled into four groups and will be engaged in a round robin basis in the league stage consisting 24 matches.
At the completion of the league stage the two top teams of each group will advance to the knock-out quarter-finals consisting of seven matches including the final.
The 31 matches will be spread as follows:
27, 28 April, simultaneously, at MCA grounds, Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya and De Mazanod College Kandana (4 matches at each venue);
4 May: Quarter-finals at De Mazenod College Kandana and the semi-finals and the final on May 5 will be played on turf at the MCA ground.
The sponsorship presentation ceremony, together with the captains briefing and the draw for groupings was held on Wednesday (24) at the MCA Legends Wing. (TBR)
