The Sri Lanka rugby team will play against Kazakhstan, Qatar and India in the men’s division one Asia Rugby Championship on April 30 and May 4 at the Race Course ground in Colombo.
The first match will be played between Kazakhstan and Qatar with the kick off at 4 pm and Sri Lanka will play against India in the second match to kick off at 7 pm on April 30.
The losers of these two games will play against each other at 4 pm on May 4 while the winners will play for the championship trophy at 7 pm.
Sri Lanka has chosen their strongest team with skipper of CR&FC Soyuru Anthony to lead the side along with Tarinda Ratwatte of Kandy SC as the vice captain. The team is packed with the best players from the A division clubs that participated in the League tournament last season.
Players in the mould of Thenuka Nanayakkara, Raveen de Silva, Manilka Ruberu, Faiz Abdulla, Sachith Silva, Charith Silva and Kavindu de Costa are some of the well known names from the division one clubs.
Meanwhile, Asian rugby conducted a Level One coaching course for about 25 Sri Lanka coaches at the Kandy SC ground. The course was conducted by two officials from the Asian Rugby Association who came from overseas. The CEO of Asian Rugby, Benjamin Qurran also attended to witness the course.
