England’s Jonny Bairstow hammered and unbeaten 108 from 48 balls with nine sixes to go with his eight fours to create a record in a successful run chase as Punjab Kings scored 262 for 2 in 18.4 overs to beat Kolkata Knight Riders in their IPL match on Friday night at Eden Gardens.
The previous record in a successful run chase in T20 cricket stood at 259 made by South Africa against the West Indies in a match last year.
England’s Bairstow was dropped for Punjab’s previous two games and responded with a brutal display of striking and reached his century in 45 balls that marked the fastest by an England player in the IPL.
Bairstow opened the batting for the Punjab Kings who scored 93 in the first six power play overs and were assured of the win when Shashank Singh came to the crease at the fall of the second wicket and smashed an unbeaten 68 in 28 balls with eight sixes.
