Strength-lifting introduced to Sri Lanka

The inaugural Strength-lifting Championship took place recently at Sudarshi Hall Institute of Sinhala Culture, Bauddhaloka Mawatha Colombo marking a significant milestone for Sri Lankan sport history.

The event featured competitions in Inclined Bench Press and Two Hand Curling across nine weight classes for men and seven weight classes for women.

Additionally, special categories were held for Junior and Sub-Junior divisions for both men and women in the Inclined Bench Press and Two Hand Curling events.

J Udara Gayan sealed the overall championship title in the Inclined Bench Press category lifting an impressive 315kgs in the men’s division while Dulanjana Shiwanka secured the overall championship in Two Hand Curling, lifting 130kgs in the men’s division.

In the women’s division Eshani Wannakuwatta emerged victorious in both the Inclined Bench Press and Two Hand Curling events lifting 85kg and 57.5kg respectively.
