Woman found killed in Maradankerni

A 44-year-old mother of three was found raped and strangled to death at her home in Thalai Adi, Maradankerni on Friday night, police said yesterday.

They said the lifeless body of the woman was found near the toilet by her fisherman husband who had returned home from work.

The woman was pronounced dead on admission to the Point Pedro Hospital, police said.

Police were yet to make any arrests while investigations continue.

In a separate incident reported from nearby Medawachchiya a 44-year-old woman was hospitalised after she received gunshot injuries on Friday night, police said.

The victim was initially admitted to the Medawachchiya Hospital and later transferred to the Anuradhapura Hospital for further treatment.

The suspect, who had committed the shooting over a personal dispute and known to Police had fled the area.

Police said a 12-bore firearm had been used in the shooting.

The Medawachchiya Police are conducting further investigations. – LB
