The 11th Dhamso International Chess Festival will be held from May 17 to 21 at S. Thomas’ De Silva Memorial Auditorium.
The championship is organised by the Old Boys Chess Association of Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda.
The champion will receive the DICF Player of the Year Award and prize money to the tune of Rs.1.5 million according to the organisers.
In the past only one local player has received the top award with foreign players from India winning the trophy most of the time.
“This year’s event promises to be as thrilling as ever featuring a total of 10 matches that will undoubtedly showcase the highest levels of skill and strategy in the game of chess”, said an organising committee spokesman.
