The Sri Lanka football team gets its first overseas tour to participate in a Tri-Nations tournament in Brunei Darussalam to be held from June 3 to 11.
This is part of the FIFA World Series second stage tournament that will involve host nation Brunei and East Timor as the two other teams.
Sri Lanka is currently lying in 200th place in the FIFA world rankings and is hoping to improve on this ranking with a good performance at this tournament.
Sri Lanka defeated Bhutan 2-0 and drew with Papua New Guinea 0-0 in the FIFA Sri Lanka edition tournament held in Colombo in March this year.
The 22-member squad has been named in preparation for the FIFA three-Nation Series and two other players will be brought in to represent the country at this tournament. Meanwhile, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has extended the contract of Andrew Morrison as the foreign coach of Sri Lanka until December 21, 2025. Earlier his service contract expired on April 30, 2024 and his services were extended following a request made by the executive committee of FSL. (TBR)
