The Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB) conducted a training program for Southern hoteliers on MICE Tourism at the Occidental Eden, Beruwala on May 8.
This is one in the series of training programs that had been organised by SLCB in many parts of the country during the past few years.
This particular MICE Tourism training program was organised to create awareness on MICE tourism among the southern hoteliers and for them to be geared for the upcoming Southern MICE Expo 2024 to be held from tomorrow up to May 31.
MICE Expo will be attended by over 100 buyers across the globe and 15 international media personnel are also due to attend.
This program was attended by nearly 50 participants from 20 hotels in the southern coastal belt.
The opening remarks were delivered by General Manager, Sri Lanka Convention Bureau Krishantha Fernando. The first session on “Presentation skills in pitching for events to your hotel” was delivered by Ms. Shyana Jayalath, followed by an informative session by Director Tourist Police Pradeep Ratnayake, on “What support the Police could offer when organising events.”
“How to increase your revenue with MICE/Business Events” – General Manager, Conventions and Exhibitions Division of Aitken Spence Travels, Ziyan Ameen.
General Manager of Taj Bentota, Sibi Mathew held experience sharing session on handling successful business events.
The final speaker for the day was Digital Marketing Consultant Gihan Samarawickrama, who spoke on “Connecting Digital Marketing for successful MICE/ Business events“
This event also consisted of a practical working group session on “Identifying an Event to position the Southern Region as a MICE hub”.
