It’s crucial to have science-based decision-makers, leaders who understand the intricacies of climate science, and innovative youth ready to develop practical solutions to fight against climate change and tackle plastic pollution.
The ZeroPlastic Movement is spearheading an initiative designed to meet these needs head-on: the Climate Change Hackathon.
A Climate Change Hackathon series was launched at CINEC Campus recently. This initiative brought together students, academics, and industry experts to collaborate on innovative solutions for climate change. The event spurred various ideas and creativity, showcasing the potential of young minds when given the right platform and support.
This series of events will go onto foster a new generation of climate warriors equipped with knowledge, leadership, and innovative spirit to tackle one of the most pressing issues of our time.
The aim of the hackathon is to encourage science-based decision making by connecting experts and students from various scientific disciplines; promote leadership development by nurturing leaders who will advocate for and implement climate-friendly policies and practices; and spur youth innovation by tapping into the creativity and technological prowess of young minds to generate fresh and innovative solutions that can be applied at grassroots levels.
The ZeroPlastic Movement is gearing up to host subsequent hackathons at other major universities, including University of Peradeniya, University of Colombo and University of Moratuwa.
