It’s unbelievable but true. You can now play golf indoors and tee off with your best shot without fear of damaging the wall opposite you.

This is what the new Condor Golf Academy that was launched on Sunday (26), provides to golf lovers in Colombo.

The academy features hi-tech equipment like TrackMan, GC Quad and Flight Scope. These tools were made possible through the efforts of Founder/Chairman Jason Liyanage and Co-founders Nick Perera and Priyantha Athukorale.

TrackMan, a key feature of the academy, uses radar to analyze a golfer’s swing and ball flight. “TrackMan is known as a golf stimulator acting like a super-smart coach,” explained Managing Director Mithun Perera, son of former national golf champion Nandasena Perera, who is now a top professional golfer in Sri Lanka. “It shows how far the ball goes, how fast it spins and the angle it flies. It’s very detailed.”

US-based Jason Liyanage, the visionary behind bringing this technology to Sri Lanka, aims to make it accessible to underprivileged players. Liyanage has a deep connection to Sri Lanka and wants to give back to the sport.

“Our goal is to further develop golf in Sri Lanka,” said Mithun Perera.

The academy aims to provide training and experience to Sri Lanka’s many talented junior golfers.

“Junior players often go abroad for experience. With this technology, we can train them here and aim for victories overseas,” Perera noted.

Those who wish to learn more about golf and obtain training can join the academy.

“However, the academy is only in the initial stage and more facilities like Putting will be the next step in their venture.

“We aim to support underprivileged children and schools by providing professional golf facilities. Our goal is to develop the game and make it accessible to all, said Perera.

This Condor Golf Academy was inaugurated by Harin Fernando Minister of Sports and Tourism.

The Sports Ministry according to Minister Fernando is looking for ways to promote tourism through golf and are looking to inaugurate train services that will take the tourists to golfing centres like Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Trincomalee and other venues.
