Afghanistan shocked the pundits as they defeated New Zealand to post their second win from two matches in the T20 World Cup at Providence in the West Indies yesterday.
Defending a score of 159 Afghanistan made inroads right from the beginning and restricted New Zealand to an embarrassing 75 all out in only 15.2 overs as leg spinner Rashid Khan plucked four wickets for just 17 runs from his four overs.
Glenn Philipps (18), Mark Chapman (4), Michael Bracewell (0) and Lockie Ferguson (2) were his victims.
Face bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi ensured New Zealand did not get off to a desired start as he sent back opener Finn Allen bowled without scoring with no run on the board.
Afghanistan had a score to defend despite some effective New Zealand bowling after openers Rahmanulla Gurbaz (80) and Ibrahim Zadran (44) put on 103 runs for the first wicket in 14.2 overs.
Gurbaz hammered five sixes and three fours and made his 80 in 56 balls while Zadran hit two sixes and three fours.
