Dr Palitha Mahipala, secretary of the Ministry of Health, officiated the momentous occasion of adding new beds to the New Emergency Treatment Unit/Preliminary Care Unit for the OPD at the National Hospital. This marked the second phase of the Project, a testament to the power of collaboration, initiated by the Rotary Club of Colombo West under the leadership of District Governor Jerome Rajendram and funded by Medical Help International.
In his address, Dr Mahipala underscored the crucial role of the Independent Domestic & Foreign Medical Donation Committee (IDFMDC) in handling healthcare-related donations to Government hospitals. Initially proposed by MHI and adopted by the Ministry of Health, this committee is a significant step towards ensuring donor accountability.
Medical Help International is a public charity based in Sri Lanka and the USA that partners with many charitable and philanthropic organizations worldwide to initiate and collaborate on healthcare-related projects.
MHI, in strong collaboration with its partner organizations, has coordinated more than Rs 60 billion in medicines from all over the world. Together with its collaborative partners, MHI has donated Rs 200 million worth of medicines, consumables, and healthcare-related equipment to Sri Lanka during the last two years, significantly bolstering the healthcare sector. Expolanka Holdings/EFL, one of MHI’s prominent partners, assisted with sponsoring the Shipping /transportation cost.
