Sri Lankan boy-girl duo bags karate gold and bronze

Sanaya Hirudini and Janupa Chandiv

Sanaya Hirudini and Janupa Chandiv representing Sri Lanka at the 8th Asian Gojuryu Karate Championship in Pune, India won a gold medal and two bronze medals showcasing their talents.

Hirudini is a student of Sussex College, Malabe and won the gold medal in the Kata event and bronze medal in the Kumite event. She is coached by Amali Perera and Shehan Perera.

Chandiv won the bronze medal in the Kumite event and hails from Dompe Primary School and is coached by Sensei Damith Bandara.

The championship was organized by the Asian Gojuryu Karate Federation which is one of the four main karate styles of Gojuryu Karate.

The Sri Lankan representative at the Asian Gojuryu Karate Federation, Sensei Damith Bandara participated as the team leader and successfully negotiated to hold the next championship in Colombo in 2025.
