Senior media personality Dr. Herath M. Goonetilleke presented his latest book, “The Buddha: Word As Cosmic Doctrine,” to Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena at a recent ceremony at Temple Trees. This scholarly work has been hailed as a monumental achievement in the pursuit of world peace and is recommended as a suitable candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize by several academics from the Center for World Religions at Harvard University, USA.
Dean of Harvard’s Faculty of World Religions and Theology Prof. John Mathew has praised the book as the most prospective for the Nobel Peace Prize in Religion. The book, published by the Buddhist Cultural Centre in Sri Lanka and available on Amazon.com, makes an important contribution to global religious studies. Prof. Mathew said, “The above academic work was compiled by Dr. Goonetilleke as a result of the research studies carried out on Buddhism and Verification at local and foreign universities during the past four decades.
In accordance with the general theme of the treatise it is timely important to rethink why the message of the sublime teachings and philosophy preached by the Buddha to the world 2,600 years ago have not yet been well conceived by the entire world. He has made numerous references such as Pali Canon which is considered as sources of the Tripitaka, in Theravada Buddhism as well as several sources in Mahayana Buddhism.”
Dr. Goonetilleke, a retired public servant and esteemed media figure, presented the PDF version of his research to a panel of professors at Harvard, further cementing its academic credibility and international acclaim.
The book is especially dedicated to all Religious Leaders and the Heads of States in the world and to all the global peace organisations including the UNO.
The author of this book, Dr. Herath Goonetilleke served as a lecturer in Philosophy at the Vidyalankara University for around three years. Subsequently, he worked as a Research Assistant in Mass Media at the State Department of Information for 20 years. Although he was selected for the SLAS service, he retired before the appropriate period.
Dr. Goonetilleke was awarded the Commonwealth Scholarship and completed his DPhil degree from the Faculty of Philosophical Science at the University of Oxford, UK. He has authored several investigative books such as “Buddhism and Modern Cosmology,” “Buddhism for the 21st Century,” and “Attitude of Buddhism on Modern World Terrorism.” He has published several research articles on various topics on the Buddha Dharma.
