United National Party member and Prof. Ashu Marasinghe has accused a certain political party of engaging in a mudslinging campaign to discredit leaders who have served the public.

He was speaking at a press conference at Sirikotha, Marasinghe said that this party, alongside their “false accusation” campaign, has started a covert effort to collect international funds.

Marasinghe labelled the leaders of this party as “All-Talks” (Kaiyanayakas), accusing them of claiming to possess files on the alleged wrongdoings of political leaders and others who governed the country, solely to mislead the public.

He challenged them to present these files in court, saying, “I earnestly request them to stop being loud about these files they claim they have and at least take one of them to court.”

He also criticised the trend within this political party to divide foreign tours among themselves, travelling to Italy, Canada, and the US, while failing to take responsibility for rescuing the country from the economic distress.

Marasinghe said that the public would not forget President Ranil Wickremesinghe who accepted the challenge of addressing the country’s economic issues when members of the Opposition party backed down, resorting to their kaiyyanayaka ways.
