Ariya Rubasinghe is an icon in the Sri Lankan media industry. The launch ceremony of his biographical book Ee thamai Ari (That is Ari) which reveals the challenging and controversial areas of his life from Public Service and journalism will be held on July 5 at 3.00 p.m. at the Government Information Department, Colombo 5.
Ariya Rubasinghe held the position of Director of Government Information and the position of the Competent Authority on war news reporting during the period when the threat of LTTE terrorism was at its peak. Ari was a dear friend of the journalists even though the official position and its procedures were often cumbersome and heavily criticised by media organisations.
A lot of hitherto unknown information about political, social, economic and cultural spheres that existed in the country in the past few decades is also revealed in this book as Ari’s life story unfolds.
The keynote address at the book launch event will be delivered by Senior Administrative Officer, retired Secretary to the President Austin Fernando.
The book is written by journalist Dilip Kulatunga. Sarath Perera has done the special photography of this book for which W.M.K. Wijayabandara has contributed as creative director. This book is another Sarasavi publication.
