The Presidential Environment Awards – 2024 was held at the BMICH on Friday, June 28 under the patronage of President Ranil Wickremesinghe. The awards ceremony organised by the Central Environment Authority to promote environmental safety was held for the tenth time.
Silumina Journalist Sureka Nilmini Ilangkoon won the individual Gold award in the media section and the Silver Award went to Silumina Features Editor Subhashini Jayaratne. State Minister of Environment Janaka Wakkumbura, State Minister of Environment S. Viyalanderan, Secretary to the Ministry of Environment Prabath Chandrakeerthi, Chairman of the Central Environment Authority Venura Fernando, its Director General P. B. Hemantha Jayasinghe, the High Commissioners and Ambassadors of China, Egypt, India, US, Pakistan, Bangladesh, UK, Canada and Iran also participated. This year, 901 applications were received for the Presidential Environment Awards, and 124 Gold, Silver, Bronze and merit awards were presented to the contestants who submitted applications for 24 sub-sectors under the two main sectors – industry, business and project sector and institutions, media and social sector.
