Women’s golf in Sri Lanka took a turn for the future as the Royal Colombo Golf Club witnessed an extraordinary display of skill and sportsmanship at the zMessenger World Ladies’ Golf Week Tournament in which Vivien Folwer Watt, Sanduni Wanasinghe, Kumudini Anthony and Shanaz Preena became champions securing a total of 142 points.

The tournament also recognized the exceptional efforts of Deepani Gamage, Jade Jiggens and Kalyani Ranasinghe, who finished as the first runners-up and their impressive play throughout the competition earned them well-deserved awards. The second runner-up awards were presented to Dinuka Boralessa, Darnie Rajapaksa, and Dilini Hennayeke.

A total of 31 women’s golfers, dressed in striking purple attire, participated in the one-day tournament and they included both seasoned professionals and spirited newcomers, creating a perfect blend of experience and fresh enthusiasm.

The tournament not only promoted the growth of women’s golf but also encouraged participation and cultivated a supportive community for women in the sport according to the organisers.

The sight of the female golfers, draped in purple—a colour symbolizing women’s empowerment—gathered for the extraordinary private tournament was an indication to the spirit of World Ladies Golf Week according to organisers.

The event highlighted the strength, skill and camaraderie of women golfers, marking a significant step forward in the promotion of women’s golf in Sri Lanka.

“The zMessenger World Ladies’ Golf Week Tournament has set a new standard for women’s golf events in the country, displaying the talent and dedication of Sri Lanka’s golfers and paving the way for future tournaments that continue to promote and celebrate women’s participation in the sport”, an official said.

The sponsor zMessenger is a leading marketing technology company.
