The SOS Institute of Cambridge Examinations, a leading preparation centre for the Cambridge Assessment of English held its annual SOS Excellence Awards at the Cinema Lounge of BMICH, Colombo on July 6, 2024. The event celebrated the outstanding achievements of students and staff alike, with Nishani Perera the Account Relationship and Business Development Manager of the British Council, Sri Lanka gracing the occasion as the chief guest.
The ceremony, held from 3 pm to 5 pm, honoured 78 students who excelled in the Cambridge examinations with medals and certificates. Special titles were awarded to students who demonstrated exceptional skills during their academic journey. K.M. Ranusha Sesath Bandara received the Excellence in Academic Achievement Award for achieving the highest score possible in the KET exam (2023) and N.A. Himaya Ransinghe received the same award for the year 2024.
Shanitha Peiris, Marketing Manager of the British Council Sri Lanka; Pradeep Jayamanne, Managing Director of SOS Institute of Cambridge Examinations; and Thilini Dissanayake, Deputy Directress of SOS Institute of Cambridge Examinations, were among the main guests, adding to the event’s grandeur.
In addition to student awards, the institute’s highly qualified staff were recognised for their dedication and hard work.
This effort aimed to motivate students, parents, and teachers to pursue their academic goals with renewed vigour and commitment. Addressing the gathering, Nishani Perera stressed the importance of being ‘‘responsible in providing quality education’’ and complimented the journey of SOS Institute of Cambridge Examinations so far while suggesting new pathways to improve.
Founded in 2009, the SOS Institute began preparing students for the Cambridge Assessment of English in 2016. Through the dedicated efforts of its Managing Director, Course Director and staff, the institute has expanded to include branches in Kegalle, Galle, Kurunegala, and Avissawella.
It offers comprehensive preparation programs for many Cambridge English levels; A1 -A2 Key for schools, B1 Preliminary for schools, B2 First for schools and C1 Advanced. Both physical and online classes are available, ensuring a comfortable and flexible learning experience for students. Pradeep Jayamanne recalled “the struggling times” at the institute’s establishment and expressed his satisfaction with the institute’s progress thus far.
