Matara district Parliamentarian Dullas Alahapperuma said on Friday that a program should be formulated to provide jobs based on the Z score while filling job vacancies in the public sector that are given on the basis of the GCE Advanced Level qualification.
The MP said that by making this proposal a reality, employment opportunities can be given to eligible children fairly, by incorporating the proposal into the election manifesto.
He was speaking after a presenting a Private Member’s motion regarding the filling of job vacancies with Advanced Level qualifications in the public sector.
MP Alahapperuma said, “There were three youth uprisings in four decades. This noble land was over-run with the blood of youth. Many proposals have been put forward to find answers to youth unrest. The highest bid in the electoral market is about jobs. Employment application forms are filled during election campaigns. They are still distributing application forms in Badulla and this is rather unpleasant. However, this is intertwined with the election process.
I am making this proposal to overcome it. There is also a discussion on meritocracy in our country. It is said that there is no room for talent. Jobs are given on political leanings and this must be stopped.”
