A total of 56 enthusiastic and ambitious student athletes have been admitted to the MAS Athletic Training Academy after they were identified and picked to be developed and supported until they reach high standards and in a position to represent Sri Lanka at the Olympic level in the future.

The Training Academy was inaugurated in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports, Ministry of Education, NOC, Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) and Sri Lanka Olympian Association (SLOA) with the sole intention to boost the standard and skills of athletes who are ambitious in representing the country at the Olympic Games.

The academy was established with a staggering Rs 650 million over an eight year period for the development of athletes.

It will use a comprehensive process to identify and nurture talented athletes from school-level upwards.

This includes a holistic development program focused on training, with world-class athletic gear, international exposure, nutritional and educational support with funds and equipment provided directly to athletes and their respective coaches.

The first group of 56 high-performing athletes selected to the Academy, were present at the event with their parents, coaches and school principals to receive their certification.

Their ongoing performance and training metrics will be tracked by the academy using a best-in-class digital app to strengthen their competitiveness and encourage continuous improvement.

The Academy is the most significant in a series of efforts by MAS to support athletes and develop sports in Sri Lanka.

Most recently, Bodyline signed on as the official clothing partner for Sri Lanka Athletics, from 2024 through to the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.
