Sri Lanka’s tennis team has qualified to Group III after finishing on top in their Davis Cup group IV tournament held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia over three days.
Sri Lanka beat Kuwait 2-nil yesterday to ensure their promotion next year.
In their encounter against Kuwait, Sri Lanka won the two singles games to confirm their promotion next year.
Apna Perera beat Abdulhamid Mubarak 1-6, 7-6, 6-1 and Sanjaya Wijemanne beat Bader Alabdullah 6-3, 6-4 to confirm their promotion and the doubles encounter was not played.
Earlier, Sri Lanka lost to Qatar on the first day by two matches to one. They then beat Kyrgyzstan 2-1 on the second day and crushed UAE 3-nil on Friday.
