More records at schools swimming

Zahira College’s triple gold medalist MF Muhammad set three new meet records in his breaststroke events on the penultimate day of the MILO-sponsored 49th All Island School Aquatic Championship at the Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Pool Complex yesterday.

Muhammad set two new records in the Under-18 category for the 50m Breaststroke and 200m Breaststroke, in addition to his record in the 100m Breaststroke on the previous day.

Muhammad clocked 30.51 seconds in the Under-18 50m Breaststroke, erasing the previous record of 31.78 seconds set by CR Yogarathnam of St Anthony’s College Katugastota in 2016. His second new meet record came in the 200m Breaststroke, where he clocked 2:29.09 surpassing the previous record.

In other events, Binura Thalagala of Lyceum International School Wattala set a new meet record in the Under-18 Freestyle final clocking 4:16.49 and breaking the previous record of 4:22.34 set by Dilanka Shehan in 2017.

Nawanjana Siriwardana of Lyceum International School Wattala broke a 12-year-old meet record in the Girls Under-20 Breaststroke, clocking 37.04 seconds and erasing the previous record of 37.63 seconds set by Gihara Amarasinghe in 2012.
