Ladies College swimmers shatter 23-year doomsday jinx

Swimmers from Ladies College ended their long wait for a major title as they won the 49th edition of the MILO-sponsored All Island Schools Aquatic Championship last Sunday in which 15 new meet records were also established.

The swimmers from Ladies College were kept waiting for 23 years to bag the Championship title while in contrast their male counterparts from St. Joseph’s College continued a dominance of 19 years.

Ladies’ College celebrated another victory as they won the Senior girls team Championship while Ananda College proved their competence by claiming the Senior boys team championship.

Lyceum International School Wattala clinched the Mixed School Championship, displaying exceptional talent and teamwork and Mahamaya Girls’ College Kandy triumphed in the Junior girls team Championship.

St. Peter’s College secured the Junior boys team Championship.

In diving, Royal College and Bishop’s College continued their legacy of excellence, retaining their championship titles for yet another year.

The event was a spectacular display of young aquatic talent and sportsmanship, marking a significant chapter in Sri Lanka’s aquatic sports history.
