Ratnam held to a draw

Ratnam and Challengers ended their football encounter in a 1-l draw in the opening game of the Challenge Championship football tournament conducted by Colombo League and City Football League at the City Football League ground in Slave Island yesterday.

Ratnam opened the scoring through Diniuas in the 45th minute of the match and Challengers scored the equalizer through KSN Nishantha in the 62nd minute.

This tournament is contested by eight teams and commenced on July 20 to run until August 10 at the City League ground.

The matches set for today is between Java Lane and Sunders with the kick off at 2.30 p.m.

This will be followed by the second game between New Stars and Old Bennies with the kick off at 4.30 p.m.

According to the organisers, the main sponsor of the tournament, Expo Property Developers has arranged to present prizes amounting to one million rupees to the champions and Rs. 500,000 to the runners-up.
